What follows is a listing of the various projects, groups and
organizations that I am involved with as well as some of my past affiliations.
Current
- Information Services and
Technology
I am currently a Senior Network Architect for the Infrastructure
Services division of IST in the same group where I worked previously
(IS was known as Communication and Network Services at the time).
- The Daily Californian Alumni Association
I am a member of the board of directors for the Daily Californian
Educational Foundation, a non-profit corporation that supports the
student newspaper of the same name at Berkeley. Most of my duties
involve managing the website of the Alumni Association and writing
code to keep track of our members via a database. I also spend a lot
of time developing procedures and coordinating volunteers in order to
ensure that the information in our database is accurate.
- Consulting
While as of this writing I am quite busy, from time to time I take
on projects under contract.
Past
- Residential Computing
For roughly 2.5 years I was the Systems Manager for ResComp where
I managed the Programmer, System Administrator and Desktop
Administrator teams. For a short time I was the acting manager of the
Network and Infrastructure group for Residential and Student
Service Programs.
- Communication and Network Services
At CNS I worked on a number of projects (the common theme of which seems
to have been authentication). The Authenticated Usenet
Service project provides access to a campus newsgroup server from
outside the campus network. Some of my work on this project is now a
part of the INN Usenet server
software, a project of the Internet Systems
Consortium. As part of that project I coordinated and configured
Usenet peering relationships and helped run the campus Usenet servers.
Another project I worked on was a web authentication system implemented as an Apache
transaction handler that replaces (and attempts to improve upon) basic
auth. The system is integrated with CalNet authentication and
directory services and allows one to protect static web pages and
scripts in an easily configurable way.
I also designed and implemented the AirBears Guest
Account Service which allows faculty and staff to create temporary
accounts for visitors they sponsor to access the campus wireless network.
- Computer Science Undergraduate Association
I was the CSUA Vice-President for the Spring 2004 semester. My
duties set forth in the Constitution included managing the CSUA
computer systems, one of which was among the largest known multiuser
FreeBSD servers (in terms of the number of simultaneous user sessions). I was
also involved with the mentoring program and the Faculty Retreat
Committee.
- The Daily Californian
From the Fall of 1998 to the Summer of 2000, I was the Manager of Information Systems for the Daily Californian.
